Description

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water, sugar, and yeast and letting it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Combine the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl, forming the foundation of your bread.
  3. Mix the yeast mixture and olive oil into the dry ingredients until combined.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf, placing it in a greased loaf pan.
  8. Allow it to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Brush with melted butter if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Make sure your water is warm (not hot) to avoid killing the yeast. Kneading is essential; be sure to knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
