Description

A nostalgic and comforting recipe for pretzel dogs, combining the classic pretzel crust with juicy hot dogs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb hot dogs
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and brown sugar together. Let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Take each hot dog and roll it in a strip of dough, sealing the ends well.
  5. Bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil. Carefully boil each wrapped hot dog for about 30 seconds, then transfer them to the baking sheet.
  6. Brush each pretzel dog with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Serve with mustard, ketchup, or your favorite dipping sauce. They pair well with a crisp salad or potato wedges.
