Baked Ziti with Hidden Ricotta

Description

A comforting Italian classic that combines ziti pasta, creamy ricotta, and gooey cheese, perfect for gatherings or cozy nights in.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz ziti pasta
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Spread half of the marinara sauce evenly on the bottom of a large baking dish.
  5. Layer half of your cooked ziti over the marinara sauce, then smooth the ricotta mixture over it.
  6. Add the remaining ziti on top of the ricotta layer.
  7. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the top of the ziti.
  8. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese generously over the top.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Let cool for a few minutes before serving and garnish with fresh basil.

Notes

Slightly undercook the pasta to prevent mushiness. You can add veggies for extra nutrition.
