- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- Coarse sea salt
- 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Mix the dough: Gradually mix in flour and salt until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough: Knead for about 5 minutes, then cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- Prepare the oven: Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
- Shape the pretzels: Divide dough into pieces, flatten each piece, and place a mozzarella piece in the center.
- Seal and shape: Fold dough around cheese, shaping into a ball.
- Boil the pretzels: Boil water in a large pot, adding baking soda. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds, then transfer to a baking sheet.
- Egg wash & seasoning: Brush with egg wash, sprinkle with sea salt, Parmesan, and rosemary.
- Bake to perfection: Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm!
Notes
These pretzels are best enjoyed fresh with marinara sauce or mustard for dipping. They can also be frozen for longer storage.
