Description

A delightful twist on the classic brunch favorite, this Monte Cristo Breakfast Casserole is layered with ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese, making it perfect for any gathering.


Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bread (preferably brioche or challah)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 pound deli ham, sliced
  • 1/2 pound deli turkey, sliced
  • 8 slices of Swiss cheese
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Layer 4 slices of bread in the bottom of the prepared dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined. Pour half of the mixture over the bread.
  4. Add the ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese on top of the soaked bread.
  5. Add another layer of the remaining bread slices on top.
  6. Pour the rest of the egg mixture over the top.
  7. Let the casserole sit for 15 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  9. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving and offer maple syrup on the side.
