Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar for glaze
- 1–2 tbsp lemon juice for glaze
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Let it sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- Combine the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Create the Dough Mixture: Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, lemon zest, and lemon juice into the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-10 minutes.
- First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Roll Out the Dough: Once risen, roll out the dough into a rectangle. Spread a bit of butter on top, sprinkle with sugar, and roll it up tightly.
- Slice and Arrange: Cut the rolled dough into slices and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Second Rise: Let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the Glaze: Mix the powdered sugar with lemon juice and drizzle over the warm rolls.
Notes
These rolls pair well with fresh fruit salad or yogurt. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for a month.
