Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon Italian herbs (like oregano, basil, thyme)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (like mozzarella or Parmesan)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and Italian herbs.
  2. Add the sourdough starter and water to the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Incorporate the shredded cheese into the dough during the last minutes of kneading.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  7. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Allow the dough to rest while the oven heats up.
  9. Score the top of the bread with a sharp blade.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  11. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Store in a paper bag at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Use active sourdough starter for best results.
