Description

A delightful loaf that combines the flaky layers of a croissant with the tenderness of classic bread, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let it sit until frothy.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla extract to the mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the cold butter between two sheets of parchment into a rectangle.
  7. Roll the dough into another rectangle.
  8. Place the butter in the center of the dough rectangle and carefully fold the dough over it.
  9. Roll out the dough again, fold into thirds, and refrigerate for 30 minutes; repeat 2-3 times.
  10. Shape the dough into a loaf or rolls and let it rise for another hour.
  11. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
