- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 cup unsalted butter (cold)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let it sit until frothy.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract to the mixture.
- Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
- Roll out the cold butter between two sheets of parchment into a rectangle.
- Roll the dough into another rectangle.
- Place the butter in the center of the dough rectangle and carefully fold the dough over it.
- Roll out the dough again, fold into thirds, and refrigerate for 30 minutes; repeat 2-3 times.
- Shape the dough into a loaf or rolls and let it rise for another hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
