Description
A comforting slow-cooked dish featuring tender chicken simmered in rich French onion soup, topped with gooey Swiss cheese and crispy fried onions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lb. chicken breast, boneless and skinless
- 1 cup onion, sliced
- 10.5 oz can of condensed French onion soup
- 1 oz onion soup mix
- 2–3 slices Swiss cheese, sliced
- French fried onions (optional)
- Parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Slow Cooker: Spray the inside of an 8-quart slow cooker to prevent sticking and make cleanup a breeze.
- Arrange the Chicken: Place the chicken breasts neatly in the slow cooker, allowing them to form a delightful base for our dish.
- Add the Onions: Evenly distribute the sliced onions over the chicken, adding that sweet, aromatic flavor we all love from French onion soup.
- Mix in the Soups: Sprinkle the onion soup mix over the ingredients, followed by pouring in the condensed French onion soup.
- Stir and Cover: Give everything a gentle stir to mix the ingredients slightly, then cover the slow cooker.
- Cook for 4 hours on high or 6 hours on low.
- Final Touches: About 30 minutes before the dish is done, sprinkle the optional French fried onions over the top.
- Cheese Please!: Place one slice of Swiss cheese on top of each chicken breast.
- Garnish and Serve: Cut some fresh parsley for a pop of color and serve warm straight from the pot!
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months. For flavor variations, consider adding mushrooms or bell peppers.
